Cut Up T-Shirt: 3 Column Weave & Bows

Posted on October 10, 2013

In this video, I explain how to cut three columns in the back of the t-shirt – two narrow on each side and one wide in the middle. You can choose to leave them as horizontal strips, weave all of them, or tie the middle strip into bows!

I started off with a Hamburger Disco t-shirt with hamburger bees (so cute!) in a size small printed on an American Apparel shirt.

Step 1: Neckline

Cut off the neckline to your liking (I cut where the white line is)

Step 2: Side Columns

Plan out how wide you want each column. Cut the two narrow columns on each side and braid them using this tutorial.

Step 3: Middle column

Cut the wide column in the middle.

It’s your choice how you want to customize the middle column. You could weave it or use another idea but I double knotted fabric around 5 strings in a bunch to make a “bow” look. I created strings using the leftover bottom hem that I cut off in the beginning.

Optional: I cut off the first four strings to get rid of the logo and create a lower  back. I cut along the white lines shown in the picture below.
