Try Something Heavenly

Posted on December 4, 2013

At the November YVR Bloggers event, I had the opportunity to meet Navkiran and Kulwinder, the entrepreneurs and skilled aestheticians behind 4 Angels Beauty Care. They invited me to try out their services and I happily accepted knowing my eyebrows needed help! Plus, they’re offering my readers three $50 prizes – scroll down to enter the contest!

I’ve always tweezed my own eyebrows but I struggle with getting them even on both sides and knowing how much arc to give them. When I’ve gone to get my eyebrows threaded in salons, I find that they usually just jump in and start threading. I have to stop them and tell them my concerns while they nod a few times and tell me they understand. However, with Navkiran, this was a completely different experience.

Walking into 4 Angels Beauty Care, I noticed how soothing the music was and how they incorporated their signature teal colour into the beautiful decor. I sat down with Navkiran on the couch to discuss which services I was interested in and what my beauty concerns were. I was really interested in getting an Indian Head Massage to encourage hair growth but I settled on getting their most popular service, Divine Brows ($22) and I was interested in getting my very first bikini wax ($25)!

Learning about eyebrow shaping

Using a white marker, Navkiran explained how my eye shape relates to my eyebrows and how they should be shaped. My eyebrow arc and length was relatively in the right spot but my left eyebrow arc needed to be a tad higher and start closer to my nose. I knew they were uneven!

After the markings and explanations of where I need to grow in my eyebrow hairs, the threading started. Navkiran noted I have a lot of ingrown hairs from plucking, it’s all I do! But not every pluck pulls out the hair out from the base but threading grabs even the finest hairs out of the follicle every time.

My eyebrows looked great afterwards, extremely clean lines and my arc looked great. I felt way more educated on how to deal with my eyebrows from the consultation and super relaxed from the brow/head massage she gave me! I’ve never gotten a massage for an eyebrow threading before and thought this was a great touch. And Navkiran even filled my eyebrows in with brow makeup afterwards to show me what they would look like if I grew in the right spots.

Waxing the nether regions…

Now that I was extremely relaxed from the massage, I was about half ready for my very first bikini wax! I was worried since I didn’t have any aspirin on me to help ease the pain that was about to come and I had no idea what to expect. But I consider myself to have a high pain tolerance though since I used to wax my own arms regularly. It takes guts to rip off a wax strip from your own arm!

I started off by taking off my pants and changing into a pair of disposable panties and she gave me baby wipes in case I wanted to give myself a quick wipe down. I lied down on the table with a towel on top of my bottoms and told her I was ready. When she came back into the room, she gave me a piece of paper to read on before and after care for waxing while she prepared. Since Navkiran knew it was my first time, she used a purple wax for sensitive skin on me. Knowing it was purple made me feel better.

To start, my disposable undies were pulled down as she waxed along the top. Then the undies were pulled to each side as she did the top left and right side. I helped by pulling my skin taut, which lessened the pain. The amount of pain is what I expected, yes, it hurt! But it wasn’t so bad that I wouldn’t go again. It was more painful than when I wax my arms but not by too much depending on the spot. Some areas hurt more than others. Putting pressure on the spot immediately afterwards helps a lot and the pain goes away after a second. But I imagine the pain hurts a lot more if you’re getting a French or brazilian! Definitely start off with a bikini if it’s your first time so you can ease yourself into it.

To go all the way down the sides, she had me open my legs while lying on my back. I had my feet together with my legs in a diamond shape. To finish things off, I laid on my left side with my bum facing her and she instructed me to hold my undies to the side while she did a few quick rips around my bumhole! This hurts way less than the front since it’s not on top of bone.

If you’re wondering what a bikini wax is and how it differs from a French or brazilian, it’s about the amount of hair being taken off. My bikini wax was definitely not as awkward since I got to keep the undies on. However, for a French and brazilian, you need to be naked from the waist down so they can get all the hair up in your business. A bikini wax just makes the area tidy for any hairs that might show when you’re wearing a bikini (hence the name).

The recommended upkeep is to tweeze the strays that grow in before your next appointment. At first I thought that sounded like torture but it’s not as bad as I expected and I’m sure over time it will hurt less. Navkiran also mentioned I had a ton of ingrown hairs from shaving so I’m going to try to stop shaving and continue waxing! You guys could do the same since 4 Angels Beauty Care is 3 prizes to try out any of their services!

For threading, it doesn’t hurt that much. It feels like plucking an entire row at once. I’m really used to plucking so it’s okay for me. For waxing, it hurts quite a bit but the pain goes away a few seconds later!

  8. Nicole Bansal December 21, 2013 at 9:36 pm

Wow, I like how they marked your eyebrows before they went ahead with threading. Very detailed. I like how you described the entire process and shared your opinion. I have the ingrown hair problem too and it would be great if I could get 4 Angel’s consultation.
